Announcing HPE NonStop Shadowbase Zero Data Loss (ZDL) Technology with Version 7.000!
2024 was a stellar year for Gravic and the HPE Shadowbase product line! Earlier this year, we celebrated the 50th anniversary of NonStop, Gravic’s 45th Anniversary, and our 10th Anniversary with HPE as our global reseller of our Shadowbase product line. More importantly, customers around the world improved their businesses using HPE Shadowbase solutions.
We worked with customers on a wide range of challenges, such as zero downtime migrations during platform refreshes, upgrading to high and continuous availability architectures, and streaming NonStop data into other enterprise environments and platforms. Announcing Version 7.000 for HPE NonStop J and L-series Features
Gravic, Inc. is pleased to announce the General Availability of HPE Shadowbase software version 7.000 for HPE NonStop Servers (SPR ID: T1122L70) with the following updated features:
- HPE Shadowbase Zero Data Loss (ZDL) capability as a Controlled Availability (CA) feature (Note: replication source-side systems must be on L-series O/S; target side can be J or L-series O/S)
- Automatic alternate key file filtering option, allowing for automatic exclusion of alternate key files from replication
- The Shadowbase Blistering Fast Compare (SBBFCOMP) utility, a part of the HPE Shadowbase Compare suite, supporting rapid comparison of Enscribe entry-sequenced files
- Enhanced latency and statistics reporting and alarming
- Built-in support for the Extract Transform and Load (ETL) Toolkit, with expanded capabilities including additional target support such as a Kafka adapter, an IBM MQ adapter, and optional JSON output formatting support
- Enhanced Queue Manager QFILE management, including a new utility, SBQFUTL, for viewing information about existing QFILES
- Simplified support for fan out of one source event to many target events when needed for data normalization (e.g., when expanding an Enscribe DDL ARRAY item into multiple target rows, with one target row per array element)
- Wildcarded Compare support for Enscribe and SQL Compare to simplify large database compare jobs

Announcing Version 6.810 for Other Servers Features
Gravic, Inc. is pleased to announce the General Availability of HPE Shadowbase software version 6.810 for Other Server platforms with the following updated features:
- Support for the version 6.800 general features for our other supported platforms and databases, including AWS Aurora, Google Cloud Platform (Cloud SQL), etc.
- Additional enhancements to the ODBC Array-based processing mode, including support for:
- Columnar mode array-based processing for improved performance with columnar databases
- Enhanced array-based processing statistics
- Additional statistics reporting, including detailed information on DOC file I/O operations for each object and additional latency reporting and alarming capabilities
- Support for long hostname values
- A new utility, SBLICINFO, to assist with system information reporting for Shadowbase license requests
- And much more!

- Sean also gave a demo of Golden 1’s Shadowbase Monitoring dashboard using Idelji’s Web ViewPoint Enterprise.
Paden Holenstein Presented HPE Shadowbase: New Advancements in Data Replication, Integration, Validation, and More
- Paden provided an overview of HPE Shadowbase solutions plus key current and future enhancements such as:

- In addition, there were two guest speakers:
- Sean O’Banion gave highlights of Golden 1’s recent Platform Refresh project using HPE Shadowbase for a Zero Downtime Migration
- Nelson Wong (HPE) discussed an Asia-Pacific customer’s Triple Active/Active project that leveraged HPE Shadowbase to survive system and component failures without any noticeable issues to the end users
Mark Pollans (HPE) and Paul Holenstein (Gravic) Presented Keeping Your Business Running – No Matter What
- Attendees gained an understanding of how HPE Business Continuity products such as HPE Shadowbase complement HPE NonStop systems to provide continuous access to data and applications – no matter what
- Beyond Business Continuity, they covered the latest Data Integration and Data Streaming techniques for integrating data across the enterprise in a hybrid IT environment, including:
- Kafka
- Oracle
- IBM DB2
- Microsoft SQL Server
- SAP Hana
- New web-based API environments
- And many more
Paul Holenstein and Ken Scudder Presented Digital Resilience for Ransomware Protection and Data Recovery
- With Malware and Ransomware threats growing rapidly, data reliability and recovery are urgent business concerns
- HPE Shadowbase has a rapidly evolving solution for these customers
- Furthermore, governments in all regions are enacting Digital Resilience related regulations, such as the EU’s DORA, with which companies must comply
- Paul and Ken also discussed new architectures and requirements for Ransomware Data Recovery based upon the Digital Resilience Framework

2024 HPE Shadowbase Hall of Fame Awards
We were pleased to present the 2024 HPE Shadowbase Hall of Fame Awards to Amy Sochipun Vajropala (DataOne Asia CEO) and Darshan Mandrekar (HPE Mission Critical Solutions Sales) and Peter Ow (HPE Solution Architect, not pictured) for Outstanding Sales Growth – Thailand. They were recognized and received their awards at the recent Connect HPE NonStop Technical Bootcamp held in Monterey, California. Congratulations to all!
Shadowbase Deployment Training and Migration Projects
Training
- The HPE Singapore Service Team (pictured right) prepared for an Oracle Golden Gate replacement project at a major worldwide port.
- A customer’s new Support Team became familiar with new and upcoming Shadowbase features so that they are more comfortable in providing Level 1 support to their customers.
Several Migration Projects
- A major U.S. retailer that uses several applications, used HPE Shadowbase to successfully load over 988 TB of data to an Oracle database without impact to the source application
- Upgrading a large US-based pharmacy application from an Active/Passive environment to an Active/Active replication environment, which successfully enabled the required applied OS patches without impact to the application
- An existing Shadowbase Data Integration customer implemented Shadowbase Business Continuity between its HPE NonStop systems
- An Australian bank completed a detailed Shadowbase Zero Downtime Migration
- The bank migrated its unaudited CONNEX application that used a competing replication solution to Shadowbase Data Replication on its new systems without impact to the customer’s application
- The bank gained additional benefits from switching to an audited application environment
- In addition, we recently started a new POC comparing Shadowbase Zero Data Loss performance with a customer’s existing replication environment.
