The CTUG (Canadian Tandem User Group) event was held this week at the Mississauga HPE Office near Toronto, Canada. Paul Holenstein, Kenneth Scudder, and Paden Holenstein jointly presented to an engaged group on “HPE Shadowbase Digital Resilience for HPE NonStop Systems.”
David Jones (HPE) provided the HPE Keynote discussing the rich history of NonStop from Tandem, to Compaq, to HP, and ultimately to HPE. There were some very interesting and fun facts; for instance, Tandem Computers, the original creator of the first version of a NonStop, was one of the first of what we now call modern-day “Silicon Valley” companies. It was so rapidly growing, that President Bill Clinton visited Tandem Computers in Cupertino, CA in 1992. Read about his visit here.
CTUG attendees were cordial and during breaks made their rounds to the various vendor tables. HPE kindly sourced and raffled classic Tandem and NonStop memorabilia. The post-event reception gave everyone an opportunity for more interaction and networking.
During the Education Day, Keith Moore (HPE) discussed HPE’s new Tokenator engine. Keith began with a slide overview and ultimately gave a hands-on demo, showing some perspective of how the engine is configured, what tokenized vs. detokenized data looks like, and the various processes and objects involved with the engine. Open conversation with questions ensued throughout the day, providing more context about the engine.
Ultimately, CTUG had strong attendance while providing an excellent opportunity for attendees to network and learn what is new with recent NonStop technological developments. We thank all of the CTUG organizers who diligently worked hard to create this successful event.
