It seems like 2023 was the year of “revenge travel” for the HPE NonStop industry. Customers, HPE, and Vendors alike planned and hosted a slew of events including eBITUG, OZTUG, MexTUG, CTUG, ThaiTUG, TNUG, KNUG, N2TUG, HPE Discover, TBC, and VNUG. (Did we miss any?)
A comprehensive HPE NonStop defense is being developed based on best practices as defined in NIST Cybersecurity Framework. Please visit our new Digital Resilience webpage which describes how HPE Shadowbase software can help you thwart Malware and Ransomware.
We are pleased to announce our latest releases, available now with a whole host of new functionality: HPE NonStop Shadowbase Version 6.801 for both J and L-series systems and HPE Shadowbase Version 6.800 for Other Servers for Windows/SQL Server.
Keith Evans summarizes how Malware and Ransomware have become massive and potentially existential threats. A comprehensive defense requires multiple layers of protection, including strong Data Resilience.
Using TMF provides ACID transaction protection, guarantees all database changes are logged, and enables HPE Shadowbase to use the Audit Trail change data for synchronizing a target environment and for data recovery.
Additionally, HPE Shadowbase detects and prevents Man-in-the-Middle attacks between its processes and facilitates adherence to the 3-2-1-1 backup strategy so that companies can replicate data into immutable storage and quickly recover on an air-gapped, isolated (and hence fully protected) system.
We published the article, Ransomware Protection and Data Recovery, in the September/October issue of The Connection, based on our Demo at the HPE booth during the Connect NonStop Technical Boot Camp (TBC). It describes how to use Shadowbase to recover an application on a Ransomware Recovery System (RRS).
The Business Development and Marketing Teams survived this slew of events. Susan Pridham remarked, “I’ve never seen so many shows in my past 15 years here at Gravic!” We are grateful for all the hard work that Customers, Connect, HPE, and Vendors put into organizing these events around the globe, which were well-attended. Internally, we thank Susan for “herding cats” and ensuring that all of the logistics ran smoothly and without a hitch.
In particular, we enjoyed the NonStop TBC 2023 in Denver in mid-September. Bruce, Denise, Paden, and Paul Holenstein along with Drew Bauernschmidt, Ken Scudder, and Jonathan Sechrist greatly enjoyed meeting and talking with many of you.
The team produced a New Solution Brief Translation: Lea el Resumen de HPE Haga que su Empresa no Sufra Interrupciones.
The team also produced a new article on Stepping Stones for a Successful Migration. We created this infographic to illustrate how a Shadowbase Zero Downtime Migration (ZDM) enables you to safely cross the “migration river” by eliminating the risks associated with migrations and following procedures that include best practices.
Another new article was just published on the use case, Major U.K. Bank Migrates its BASE24 Application to Active/Active for Continuous Availability. A large bank in the U.K. provides lending, wealth management, card processing, and many other services for over 48 million customers worldwide. Learn about the bank’s journey to Continuous Availability, what went well, what could have gone better, and how the bank successfully completed the project with no application downtime.
The ITL Implementation Team is in the final phases of a Major UK Bank Migrating its BASE24™ Application to Active/Active for Continuous Availability. Our migration projects typically involve upgrading Shadowbase software to the latest and greatest version. We always recommend customers using Shadowbase User Exits involve our Delivery Team to assist with the upgrade procedure, and to ensure existing features and functions remain in-place after the upgrade.
Our Development and QA Teams are quite busy working with the new NSB version 6.801, and the OSB version 6.800 for Windows. Please contact us for upgrade assistance and more information.
We are pleased to announce our two latest releases, available now with a whole host of new functionality:

HPE NonStop Shadowbase Version 6.801 includes a new method for replicating an exact copy of a SQL/MP key-sequenced table that contains a SYSKEY.
Shadowbase software still relies on SQL/MX to insert the exact SYSKEY value into the target table, but it now operates at the Guardian level using a new Shadowbase-managed server process to help coordinate the work.
The Shadowbase configuration can be very similar to the rest of the replication threads going from source to target and provides users with a much easier method to replicate MP SYSKEY tables.
