2012 Spring Newsletter — Executive Vice President’s Letter

Paul J Holenstein

Paul J. Holenstein Executive Vice President

Hello and welcome to our Spring 2012 Shadowbase Products Group Newsletter.

I have been traveling a lot lately, visiting current and potential customers, as well as attending many of the regional NonStop shows. I have to admit that I am very impressed with the spirit of community, NonStop is very alive and well from a grass-roots perspective!

Three of my recent events were in the Eastern half of the US – SunTUG (Tampa, Fla.), NENUG (Andover, Mass.), and OTUG (Columbus, Ohio) – and one was in Scandinavia – FINTUG (Finland). This was the first year that we attended FINTUG, and enjoyed the excellent food and wonderful people. All were energetic and great shows, with their own, unique, perspective on the state of NonStop in their communities. Three overall items impressed me the most:

  1. First, the enthusiasm of the attendees, and especially the effort that the RUG officers and HP liaison personnel provided, was outstanding! I have been involved in RUG management for many years (e.g., MATUG), and to provide fresh, valuable business and technical content, along with strong HP and vendor support, is often a real challenge. And talk about customers…I was very impressed that many NonStop users came to the events, including many that haven’t been for quite some time. I’d personally like to thank all of the RUG officers, HP sponsors, and the user community for making the meetings so productive.
  2. Secondly, I am impressed with all the new features and functions coming out on the NonStop platform. As you would expect, all the shows featured HP NED roadmaps and product plans, with some exciting new releases available. Even the vendors provided some excitement with their own news of wins and new features (and as you know, that is really saying something).
  3. And finally, I am impressed with the reception that our Shadowbase product suite is receiving. As most of you know, the arrival rate of new incoming NonStop accounts is less than we’d all like (a fact that NED is working very hard to improve), and the NonStop business continuity/data replication market is mostly a replacement market. I am quite pleased with our progress in this space, and look forward to speaking with more of you as you look to gain better value, features, and product support at a reasonable price!

I had the pleasure to speak at all of these events, and thoroughly enjoy presenting case studies and sharing ideas with all of you. I also had the honor to introduce a number of key new products and features in our Shadowbase line that will assist our customers to better manage, operate, and validate their replication architectures. The new product logos with descriptions are included in the Shadowbase Product Suite Overview section of this newsletter. Also please see our Development Highlights section for more information.

We look forward to seeing many of you at HP Discover in Las Vegas. Please visit us at Kiosk #507 in the NonStop Solutions Pavilion. We are co-hosting the NonStop Community Reception on Wednesday night from 6-8pm at the Grand Lux Café at the Palazzo Hotel as a special get-together of NonStop customers and HP-NED. Please stop by our kiosk for more information on obtaining the wristband needed for admission to the reception. Later that same night from 8-10pm, please join us at the “Going for the Gold” Member Appreciation Party hosted by Connect and Vivit at Gilley’s Saloon at the Treasure Island Hotel (across the street from the Palazzo/Venetian Hotels).
