Welcome to our Spring 2016 Shadowbase Products Group Newsletter! Thank you for your continued interest in Shadowbase!

Shadowbase software is currently releasing several exciting new product versions, including our NonStop Integrity (TNS/E) replication suite in early April, HPE Shadowbase for Other Servers throughout April and May, and the NonStop Integrity/X version of our replication suite in early May.

Since Hewlett Packard Enterprise began selling HPE Shadowbase last year, we have seen tremendous growth in the data, system, and application migration space as customers leverage the HPE Shadowbase Zero Downtime Migration (ZDM) procedure to replace existing environments (and replication solutions) with newer technologies including HPE Shadowbase. We recently published a new case study, Bank Chooses HPE Shadowbase Solutions for BASE24™ Business Continuity, where the customer upgraded a fairly aged non-audited database environment using a legacy replication engine with a new set of systems, new audited database, and HPE Shadowbase. We plan to continue to share a number of additional interesting case studies in future newsletters.

At Gravic, we don’t hate tape-based data recovery solutions! Quite the contrary, tape (or more likely virtual tape, or vtape), provides catalogued and recorded point-in-time recovery options. Whereas data replication will keep multiple copies of a database in sync, (even through erroneous application bugs that logically corrupt various parts of the database), vtape can be used to recover the corrupted data to a specific point-in-time prior to the corruption. Useful? Definitely. Should it be relied on for a disaster recovery solution? We think there are better options for mission-critical applications, as Keith Evans further explains in his Shadowbase Product Management column.

We hope that you have enjoyed visiting our new website! Since Shadowbase software is used across a wide variety of industries for business continuity and data and application integration, we decided to publish a new section on Industry Services, broken down further into three specific market segments. Please let us know if you like the website and these new pages, if there is additional content you want to see, and if there are any ways that you feel it can be improved.

If you are attending the upcoming GTUG or BITUG events, please stop by the Gravic booth and/or attend one of our presentations. We will be presenting on Reducing Downtime and Eliminating Risk for Disruptive Migrations with HPE Shadowbase Zero Downtime Migration (ZDM) Technology, as well as providing a Shadowbase Product Update. We look forward to meeting you at the shows and sharing ideas regarding how the Shadowbase product suite can provide solutions to your most pressing business issues for business continuity, data integration and synchronization, and application integration.

Our first synchronous replication product for HPE NonStop environments, Shadowbase ZDL, is scheduled for release in late summer/early fall, and will initially be available as a Controlled Availability (CA) release (which basically means we want to stay plugged into the early customer deployments to insure proper configurations). Shadowbase ZDL provides zero data loss protection for NonStop to NonStop business continuity environments. This release is also a stepping stone to subsequently providing collision avoidance in active/active architectures via our planned follow-on Shadowbase ZDL Plus SR product. For details on these new releases and others, please see Shadowbase Development News. We know that our synchronous technology has been a long time in coming; we cannot always foresee the various hurdles we have to cross ahead of time. Please always keep in mind that delivery dates and capabilities for future functionality are not guaranteed and may change without notice.

We deeply appreciate your support and use of our products. Feel free to contact us at any time to discuss what is on your mind. We look forward to hearing from you.

With warm regards,
Paul J. Holenstein
